The Siegel-Schwall Band was an electric blues outfit that played the music in the style of their native Chicago: gritty and with plenty of guts. A tenure with the Vanguard label in the mid 1960s resulted in some fine albums; the compilation VANGUARD VISIONARIES collects 10 tracks from these discs. Although this material can also be found on other compilations of the band's work, VANGUARD VISIONARIES offers a concise, tasty sampler of what the Siegel-Schwall Band's take on Chicago blues was all about.
