What sold it to audiences was this man's extraordinary vocal virtuosity. He could holler with rasping roughness, or he could weave the most delicate melismas. He was adept at pacing his long solos--these 10-minute tracks are mere excerpts--and at building to a blazing climax. All these songs are ecstatically in praise of Allah and his saints, but they range from intimate religious rituals to orchestrated numbers complete with attendant female choruses almost in the Bollywood mode. The liner notes are by Jameela Siddiqi, author of the relevant Rough Guide chapter, and they're exemplary: she places this music in its historical and religious context with lucid authority. "Out of a thousand listeners," said Nusrat, "even if just one feels closer to his Creator, then my work is done." There's no doubt that Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was probably the greatest singer of qawwal, the devotional songs of the Sufi. He was, arguably, one of the greatest singers of the 20th century, up there with names like Pavarotti for the power and emotion of his vocalizing, much of which came in his ecstatic improvising, which could stretch out -- all too often the pieces would last more than ten minutes each, like "Hazrat Khwaja Kheliye Dhamar," a song from the original qawwali repertoire that Khan makes entirely his in this stunning performance, backed by his group, or party as they're known. This collection carefully balances the spiritual side of Khan's repertoire with the more secular ghazals and romantic poetry. His art was in his voice and the flights of extemporization that were specifically his. But while much of his career, and indeed his reputation, came from his work in the traditional manner, Khan was also a relentless experimenter, as shown by the final track here, "Dam Mast Qalandar," which brings in a female chorus, beats, and samples for a dance track that's actually messy and far from his finest work. The biggest problem with Khan, really, is picking the best of his work -- there's simply so much of it available. This does a very fair job of representing the man, and showing his facets and talents, more so than some other best of collections available, at least. Inevitably, with so much great work of Khan's on disc, the choices are subjective. But to hear him at his best, within the tradition, the 1985 Paris Concerts are a high point, and for his more experimental side, Mustt Mustt is little short of brilliant. This disc gives you a picture of the man; those two are a more direct route to his essence. ~ Chris Nickson

Back in 1995, the original Worms was something of an underground hit. Over the years, it's gathered a cult following of devotees that has slowly grown and started to attract some casual gamers. Being released for both the Dreamcast and the PC, Worms World Party is perhaps the most approachable version of the game to date. Although veterans of the game may consider it merely an expansion pack, it's a game that stands on its own, with enough new options and features beyond new missions to warrant a full release.

For the uninitiated, Worms is a combination of action, puzzle game and turn-based strategy, whereby each side tries to wipe out the other with myriad weapons in nearly limitless combinations. Players can move their worms (and sometimes just a single worm) over hills, into mountainsides, across treacherous landscapes -- pretty much anywhere but into the water. Weather effects also play a major role in the Worms universe. The wind, for example, will affect the direction of most projectiles, though not all of them.

By weapons, we don't mean the usual knives and guns. Worms has more weapons than most other games, and plenty of them are deviously creative. In addition to the expected shotguns, bazookas and bow and arrow combinations, players will find things like Scales of Justice, an Exploding Sheep Launcher, a Stinking Skunk and the "End It All" weapon that's aptly named Armageddon. Each weapon has a specific use, and many different weapons can get the player through the same situation, leading to a lot of trial-and-error and even a lot of replayability.

The maps are quite creative as well. In addition to the expected mountainous terrains, there are many other forms to play through, including fighting onto a ship as the water level rises. To keep everything interesting and new, a new feature called the Wormpot allows players to access well over 1,000 different game styles. It works either like a slot machine, with a random dynamic picked, or players can select their own style. Features include altering weapon damage, making sticky or slippery surfaces, and even a blood mode. (Don't worry, the game will be rated "E." The violence is cartoonish at best.) Each dynamic is mixed and matched, adding even more replayability.

Newcomers to the Worms universe have not been forgotten. In addition to the Wormpot, there's now a Wormopaedia, which is an excellent guide that explains each and every weapon in the game. In addition to listing the damage for each weapon, most also contain tips from "Worm Experts" that give good and possibly unique uses for each weapon. It's a great way to figure out what's going on without having a past history with the game. There's also a Training Mode that shows how to use each weapon with various target practicing and other skills put to the test.

Online play for up to 18 people is also included, although it's recommended for no more than six at a time because of the nature of turn-based strategy. For those that prefer to go it solo, there are 45 new single-player missions, 16 new time attack missions and even a deathmatch mode that can be played both single and multiplayer. Developer Team 17 has really tried to make Worms World Party as accessible as possible.

Bikini is a Hungarian rock band.

The band was formed in 1982 by singer Feró Nagy and guitarist József Vedres after the disband of Beatrice. Bassist Alajos Németh, his brother, drummer Gábor Németh and guitarist Gábor Szucs Antal joined them and formed Bikini.

In the first years Bikini played punk music very similar to Beatrice. Frontman and songwriter Feró Nagy saw the band as a Beatrice-afterband, even covering some of their old songs. Most of their fans were the same as of Beatrice, going to concert not because of the band but because of the "Feró Nagy phenomenon". This formation released two albums "Hova lett..." in 1983 and "XX. századi híradó" in 1984 (without Gábor Szucs Antal).

In 1985 Feró Nagy left the band. Singer Lajos D. Nagy came in his place, along with keyboardist Péter Gallai. This caused a great change in Bikini's style and image. During the late 1980s the band became a professional and talented team mostly playing enjoyable pop rock and hard rock music. Along with some lineup changes during the years (most notably Bertalan Hirlemann as drummer and Zsolt Daczi as guitarist) Bikini released several albums and made several successful tours. They finally achieved stardom in 1988 with the album "Ha volna még idom...".

The band continued to release successful albums in the early 1990s. In 1992 at the peak of their career Bikini disbanded. They were reunited in 1997 after a five year absence from the music world. Along with some lineup changes during the late 1990s the band continued to do successful albums and tours. Their last album "Angyali üdvözlet" was released in 2004. In 2005 they did a highly successful country-wide concert tour.

Current lineup: Lajos D. Nagy (vocals); Péter Lukács (guitars); Alajos Németh (bass); Szabolcs Bördén (keyboards); Dénes Markovics (sax); Viktor Mihalik (drums).

Sabjilar is a renowned group of Khakass artists and performers. Formed in Khakassia in 1996, Sabjilar means "Messengers". In the formation of this group, the best performers of the young generation of Khakass musicians have been gathered together to present traditional Khakass music to the rest of the world.

Sabjilar is composed of young talented Khakass musicians, including the best female singer, which is still quite uncommon in Khakassia. All songs of Sabjilar are in traditional Khakass language. For their performances, the members of Sabjilar make use of instruments such as the "komus", a kind of lute with two strings, the "yh", a violin with two strings and a trapezoid harmonic soundbox, the "chatkhan", a flute, and the "dungur", a rattle drum used by the shamans in their rites.

All of the singing techniques and musical instruments mastered by Sergey Charkov one of members are traditional and culturally unique, as is the music they perform. As members of the world-renowned folk music group Sabjilar, the all beneficiaries are well-rounded musicians who also posse's unique personal specialties of their own.

They have conducted numerous public performances and workshops in Germany, Italy, Poland, Holland, Norway, Finland, England, USA,Japan,Switzerland.

The idea of a religious singer whose ecstasy-inducing opuses commonly run over 20 minutes having "greatest hits" borders on the hilarious. But when you consider the fanatical following the Pakistani qawwali star has gained around the world, the top-of-the-charts concept becomes less far-fetched. Upon hearing the great qawwal in person, Pakistanis in foreign cities were known to bang their heads against the stage until they bled. This set of four pieces was released in 1997, the year Nusrat died. By the time the world discovered Nusrat in the late '80s, he had produced literally hundreds of recordings, so whether you consider these archival selections "hits" or not, they are significant and worthwhile additions to his catalog. "Haq Ali Ali" is the only one of these to appear on any of Nusrat's nine Real World releases, but the short version on Devotional Songs is only a warm-up for this expansive, 25-minute rendition. Nusrat's sound remained fairly constant throughout his career. He changed his instrumental backing some before settling on harmonium as his backing instrument of choice, and his voice gathered some ragged edges in the '90s, but other than that, there was no overarching progression in his music, only side trips. None of those side trips are represented here (although 1990's Mustt Mustt really was a hit, electrifying Pakistani youth with its crossover sound). Still, there are some unusual sonic textures among the older tracks here. "Data Ke Ghulamon Ko" begins like a processional hymn, the harmonium hanging on long, organ-like chords. And "Mangte Hail Karim" uses the qanun (a hammer dulcimer) and a clarinet-like reed instrument to set up its 3/4 feel.

This is Blackfoot's first album and they really nailed it! There is a strong Skynyrd vibe throughout as well as the start of the Blackfoot heavy metal that would go on to be their trademark. Since this is an Import, it is a little expensive but worth every penny. Great sound quality and lyrics! (I consider this to be the great "Missing" Skynyrd album)
